Johannesburg based songstress Lyla Faye has released the video for her debut solo single Take This Town, which was produced and co-written by South African pop giants Locnville. When you hear the polished production on the song, it’s hard to believe that it was written and self-recorded in a Jozi living room during early lockdown 2020.“When I wrote this track in March/April last year with Brian and Andrew, I don’t think anyone anticipated the severity of this pandemic. Optimistically, I thought things would go ‘back to normal’ by the end of the year and ‘Take This Town’ would be a great party jam to celebrate with. I had to reframe the meaning of the track and improvise with a video concept that would be more fitting for the current social climate. In a time where most of us are craving a little more human connection and social interaction, I thought it would be cool to create a VR experience of the world outside, or rather, the party inside my head.
