Johannesburg’s Go Barefoot have just released a video for their hit single “Hail”.
The guys had this to say about the making of the video:
“Hail – What a journey it’s been! It began as a wedding song then grew roots from the friendships
and chaos around us.
The music video came to life as a collaboration. We worked with our old pal Tom Revington who
shot the video for ‘I Won’t Back Down’, and with Meagan Connolly, a creative who
choreographed dance to the song. When it came to the formation of the video, we just watched
as these beautiful people interpreted our music. We got to be the audience this time.
There’s is something about limitations that seems to make honest art – we are learning this as
we explore how to create content in an independent and unique manner. In this case we had a
very small budget to work with, so we searched for free locations around Johannesburg. We
joined forces with wonderful people who were excited to be involved and willing to give their
time for nothing more than creating something all together. The creation of this video had us
thinking on our feet, so things happened like music, in the moment. The restrictions we face
form the art and music we make. By the same notion, we have decided to produce the rest of
our album by utilising unique spaces that bring rare flavours out of our personalities and writing.”
