Mr. Cat & The Jackal are a unique five piece multi-instrumental group, defying standard ‘genre’ categorization they explore a veritable carnival of sounds including folk, the blues, rock, tango and also Pirate, Balkan and Irish themes, created with a multitude of traditional as well as handmade instruments and their live performances are a completely captivating musical experience.
Formed in 2006, and initially devoted to writing musical scores for theatre, pocketing a Kanna Award nomination for their work on Shakespeare’s “The Tempest” at the KKNK Festival as well as a Fiesta Award at the Aardklop Festival. The band released their debut album, ‘Themes & Variations ‘ in November 2007, garnering critical acclaim, smashing the record for attendance at Plaasteater and quickly propelling them into the spotlight and onto the national touring circuit.
When not devoted to a rigorous touring schedule the group spends a lot of time in their own studio, writing, recording and also inventing (and building) instruments. Sins & Siren Songs is Mr. Cat & The Jackal’s s second studio album and was released March 2011.
