VOLUMES, the exciting new single from Johannesburg-based wife and husband duo ACADEMIE is an undeniably enigmatic and eclectic offering. Multi-instrumentalists Jean-Louise (Dear Reader, Fulka) and Alex Parker (ISO, FutureKings) are both established musicians in the South African music scene. ACADEMIE represents the synthesis of two evolved artistic sensibilities.
“We wanted to merge the acoustic and electronic in a way that was seamless yet distinctive. By combining synthesizers, guitars and saxophone with the vocoder, we wanted to create a unique sounding song that is uplifting yet melancholic.”
VOLUMES was written and recorded at their home in Johannesburg in early 2016. The song features a fresh blend of organic and electronic elements. The synthesizers, guitars and saxophones collide to form a lush bed for the mesmerizing vocal performance by Jean-Louise.
