Be a part of this inaugural three-part music event this winter at one of South Africa’s premier tourist attractions.
The Two Oceans Aquarium, together with entertainment website Texx and the City, have joined forces to bring you a stripped down series of events this winter featuring some of the Mother City’s finest bands.
On three nights only, in June, July and August 2018, the area in front of the I&J Ocean Exhibit will be transformed into a cozy, living room-style setting where you’ll be able to enjoy two bands on each evening. Holding 1.6 million liters of sea water, the I&J Ocean Exhibit provides a massive home to rays, musselcracker, green sea turtles, a giant guitarfish and many more marine creatures. Grassy Spark and Southern Wild (June), AKING and Bam Bam Brown (July), and Majozi and Gemma Griffiths (August) have been handpicked to perform on these evenings.
“We used to host music recitals at the Aquarium years ago and they were very popular. Because of demand, and recognising that the Aquarium is a unique, spellbinding venue where truly anything is possible, we’ve been keen to bring live music back for quite some time now,” says Two Oceans Aquarium Marketing and Online Executive Ingrid Sinclair. “Of course, we needed to make sure that we could put on the perfect show that showcases the best of local talent while inviting listeners through our doors, after closing time, to experience music in a whole new way.”
About the launch of After Dark, Texx and the City’s founder and editor Tecla Ciolfi says, “The Two Oceans Aquarium is without a doubt my favourite place in Cape Town and I’ve never been more excited about any events I’ve ever hosted. Texx and the City also turns 10 years old this year so I’m using After Dark as the perfect excuse to have three birthday parties that feature some of my favourite SA bands.”
Sinclair says, “Texx and the City was the obvious choice of partner for After Dark – Tecla is highly respected in the industry, has her finger on the pulse of local music, and just so happens to be a genuine fan of the Aquarium.”
Joining the After Dark family is nautical themed microbrewery, Drifter Brewing Company, known for their exciting and unusual brews – like the Ocean Aged Tripel which was sunk on the Atlantic seabed for a full year. Drifter will provide either a tasty Buchu-infused Gin ‘n’ Tonic or a Pick Me Up Pale Ale to each guest upon arrival and the full range of Drifter beers will be on sale throughout each event.
